Treatment Options
General Dentistry
A beautiful smile begins with excellent oral hygiene. You should keep that smile looking its best by taking good care of your teeth and gums. Healthy teeth and gums are essential before cosmetic treatments can begin. With general dentistry, our office is easily able to address both need based (i.e., cavities, periodontal disease, tooth fracture, etc…) and cosmetic-based services (i.e., tooth whitening, smile enhancement, etc…). Our overall emphasis is on health at each exam visit. We perform a comprehensive oral health evaluation that includes periodic blood pressure screening (as needed), health update, and oral cancer screening.
An active personal dental care program designed specifically for your needs by our office, makes keeping healthy, attractive teeth a reality.

Examination/Check-up
Dr. Gordon’s number one concern is to make sure you and/or your family feel comfortable about coming to the dentist. The entire staff makes sure to take extra time and attention to calm anxieties by explaining the dental procedure (to even our youngest patients) and demonstrating just how our instruments and equipment operate. Dr. Gordon will complete a comprehensive examination, evaluating the teeth and supporting structures, such as bone and soft tissue. A thorough periodontal (gum) assessment will be completed to assess the health of the gums.
We proudly offer digital radiography which exposes you to significantly less radiation than traditional film. Digital radiography enables us to highlight potential problem areas on a computer screen so that you can see them and help you understand your needs. An oral cancer screening will be completed at each visit to rule out any oral pathology.
Very often photographs are taken with our intra-oral camera to share with the patient so they can see exactly what we see! All of the pertinent findings are shared on our dual digital monitors and discussed with patients so they too have a thorough understanding of their oral status.
Dental Hygiene/Periodontal Health
Each patient’s periodontal (“gum”) status is evaluated at the initial visit. Many factors are considered in determining the “type” of dental hygiene care. Managing periodontal disease is critical to the overall health of the mouth and overall patient well being, as periodontal disease has a direct correlation to cardiovascular disease. Our goal is to have each patient achieve and maintain optimal oral health and free themselves from bleeding, sore gums, loose teeth, and bad breath.
Sealants
A sealant is a plastic coating that is bonded to the grooves of the teeth, creating a barrier in the decay-prone “pits and fissures” of teeth. Sealants are an excellent preventative measure to protect all posterior (back) teeth that do not have clinical signs of decay. They are especially useful on the first and second molars. Children can begin with sealants between the ages of 5-7 when the first molars erupt. The second molars follow at ages 11-14 and can receive sealants at that time. Adults that have no previous decay on the biting surfaces of their molars (or fillings, crowns, etc…) can also have sealants.
Why Are Sealants Necessary?
Many teeth have tiny grooves that form as they develop. These are pits and fissures. This is where most decay occurs. That’s because the bristles of a toothbrush can’t get down into the grooves to remove the food and bacteria that get trapped there. By forming a thin covering over the pits and fissures, sealants keep out plaque and food, and thus decrease the risk of decay.
Implants
Dental implants can frequently be the best treatment for replacing missing teeth. Instead of resting on the gums like removable dentures, or using nearby teeth as anchors (bridges), dental implants are long-term replacements that a surgeon places in the bone and Dr. Gordon restores.
Implants are composed of titanium metal and “fuse” with your bone, establishing a strong foundation on which teeth are placed. The tooth portion is composed of porcelain or pressed-zirconium, providing a very life-like and natural appearance. By their very nature, implants cannot decay and are extremely stable.
Our patients enjoy the opportunity to confidently replace their missing teeth with dental implants that look and feel like their own. Our office works in conjunction with both oral surgeons and periodontists to create the best possible treatment outcome. After the surgeon places the “posts” (implants) in the bone, a period of healing and stabilization is allowed. The restorative phase creates the final tooth replacement.
Benefits of Implants:
- Eliminate removable dentures/appliances
- Allow a healthy and varied diet with limited restrictions on chewing
- Increased confidence in smiling and speaking
- Maintenance of existing bone
We welcome the opportunity to review your personal options regarding implant dentistry.
Crowns
Crowns are sometimes used in conjunction with other procedures to create an entirely new look. Crowns are usually recommended for correcting major functional or structural problems with individual teeth such as the following:
- A tooth is broken whereby a portion of the tooth may be fractured to the extent that it cannot be repaired.
- A tooth has had root canal therapy and is therefore rendered more brittle as it has lost its nerve and blood supply making it more susceptible to fracture.
- New decay around an existing crown.
Veneers
Veneers are customized thin tooth colored shells designed to permanently cover the front of your teeth. Veneers not only change the coloration of your teeth, but can also change their shape, close spaces between teeth, and increase the length of your teeth to compensate for wear or chipping. They are made from composite resins, acrylic material or porcelain.
Veneers can quickly, comfortably and beautifully transform your Smile. Veneers can brighten front teeth that have permanent stains or discoloration that cannot be whitened. They may be used to correct small gaps between the front teeth, or to change the shape of teeth that are poorly shaped, slightly crooked or are worn/eroded at the gum line from aggressive brushing.
Tooth Whitening
Tooth whitening (or bleaching) is a procedure by which custom, laboratory fabricated trays are worn in the mouth and lined with a safe, dentist prescribed bleaching gel.
As the bleach trays are worn, the bleaching gel progressively oxidizes (bleaches) your teeth. No mechanical changes are made to the teeth themselves, but rather, alteration of the surface pigments only. Trays may be customized to address individual oral needs.
Bonding
Bonding is a term used to describe a number of procedures that involve applying tooth-colored composite resins to the tooth. This procedure can be used to close gaps, repair chipped teeth, protect exposed roots and to restore decayed teeth.
